All campers take swimming five times per week. For most, this involves being part of a small swim group that works with a consistent instructor on skills relating to particular levels in the American Red Cross Swimming Program. For others, it may entail working towards Lifeguard Certification or strengthening their competitive swimming stamina and techniques. Instructors plan each session carefully, looking to mix fun games into their classes, along with activities and drills to improve confidence as well as strengthen and refine specific strokes in accordance with the appropriate American Red Cross Swimming Program Levels. Over the summer, campers may also work towards a range of distance swims and enjoy trips to the ‘Swimming Rocks’ or ‘The Super’ – a cool jumping platform anchored in the middle of Wawenock’s protected cove.
Wawenock’s swim team gives girls interested in swimming competitively the opportunity to do so at swim meets at neighboring camps.
