Dear Parents/Guardians:
Below is our 2026 Season Parent/Guardian Resource Guide with information to help you start preparing for the coming summer. We hope you know how much we value our relationships with campers and their parents/guardians. We have always tried to build trusting relationships based on open communication, and we believe these mutually trusting relationships were one of the vital ingredients that enabled us to open Camp successfully throughout the pandemic.
We’re confident we can create a happy, safe environment for your daughters. Not without risk – we acknowledge and appreciate the trust you place in us. As camp professionals, please know that risk management is our focus every summer! Our staff train, plan for, and practice challenging scenarios in their cabins and activities – so we are well versed in setting protocols and procedures for managing risk, while also offering opportunities for campers to take healthy risks, which is an important part of their development!
Warmly,
Andy, Catriona and Kristy

We see ourselves as partners with you in the growth and development of your daughter. As such, we encourage you to reach out to us with any and all questions and concerns related to your daughter’s camp experience. During the summer season, we are often out and about working with campers and staff, so please leave a message and we will respond as soon as possible.
Parent Contact Information:
If you plan on traveling while your daughter is at Camp, please send an itinerary to our office, as well as contact information where we can reach you while you’re away.
Summer Updates from Camp:
We will share regular written email updates, as well as periodic website blog posts which can be found under the Current Families tab, News.
Additionally, we will be uploading slideshows once a week of all the highlights and some of the typical daily events that your daughter will be experiencing. To gain access to these password-protected images, go to: www.campwawenock.com and click on the tab which says, Current Families then select Camp Photos then 2026 Season Photos. Please refer to your email or contact the office for the password.
For real-time updates throughout the summer (and throughout the year!), follow us on Instagram and Facebook .
It is important to recognize how healthy it is for a child to grow independently at Camp. She will learn to trust herself and others in the camp family, and become comfortable advocating for herself while she builds her resilience and self-reliance. Likewise, it is also healthy for a parent to allow that space for their child. As such, we seek to find a balance of sharing information and pictures so you have a view into life at Camp, while also not interrupting the flow and allowing girls at Camp to be living the camp experience fully in the moment.
HEALTH CARE
Each camper’s medical history is reviewed carefully by our medical staff. This allows us to be ready to administer to the health needs of your child during the summer. Please keep in mind that the more we know about the health habits and history of your child the better we can take care of her. This includes any and all information pertaining to your child’s psychological development and emotional well-being (including any counseling), which is enormously helpful as we work to maximize your child’s experience at Wawenock.
Medical Forms – Due May 31st
Two medical forms (#1 and #2 below), Health Insurance information, and the Medical Authorization must be completed by May 31st. Two supplementary forms (#5 and #6 below) should be completed if necessary. All are available to complete online through your CampInTouch portal linked here.
- Health History: This information must be completed by you by May 31st. State Regulations require that we have a current medical form on file for each camper. You will also be asked to include a copy of your Insurance Card and your Prescription Card.
- Physician’s Exam Form must be completed and signed by your daughter’s physician and uploaded or returned to us no later than May 31st. Be sure to schedule an appointment early so that your child’s health form arrives at Camp by May 31st. Your doctor may complete this form based on an appointment anytime within 12 months of the camp season.
- Immunization Form – For the safety of our community, all campers and staff must provide documentation of immunizations they have received. We strongly recommend the following immunizations DTaP (diptheria, tetanus, and pertussis/whooping cough), Polio, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella (chickenpox), COVID-19 vaccine, For 7th grade and up: Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV4)
- Health Insurance: All campers are required to have current Health Insurance coverage in the event of an accident or injury. Please upload copies of the front and back of your Insurance/Prescription Cards through your CampInTouch portal.
- Parent/Guardian Authorization: This document outlines permission for your child to engage in camp activities, and for camp representatives to provide, seek, and consent to routine health care and emergency treatment, among other things. Please read the document thoroughly and sign it through your CampInTouch portal.
- Self- Administered Emergency Medication Permission Form: due May 31st, if applicable. Some campers are medically required to carry and self-administer emergency medication outside the regular supervision of our medical staff. These are campers who have been diagnosed at risk for a potential medical crisis such as severe asthmatic attacks or life-threatening allergic reactions. These medications include, but are not limited to, an asthma inhaler or an epinephrine (epi) pen. If a camper is medically required to possess and self-administer emergency medication, Maine State Law requires written approval from her physician and written permission from her parent/guardian. If this applies to your daughter, please complete this form.
- Additional Information about Your Daughter’s Asthma: Due May 31st, if applicable. We want your child to receive appropriate care and support for her asthma while attending camp. Please complete the questions on the Health History Form in your CampInTouch in consultation with your physician and share additional information as needed, including physician medication orders or greater detail about your child’s asthma history.
Campers taking medications
- In order to plan and prepare for your daughter’s arrival at Camp, please list the medications she will take on her medical forms in your CampInTouch portal.
- Our Health Center is required to have a Doctor’s order (on the Doctor’s Health Recommendation Form) or a written prescription for any medications, prescription or non-prescription, including vitamins and supplements. Please be sure to provide this with your daughter’s Health Forms.
- By Maine State Law, all medications (over the counter or prescription) must be stored in the Health Center (except with permission, as stated above). All prescription and non-prescription camper medicine, should be presented to the nurses at the Health Check upon your camper’s arrival.
- Our Health Center stocks typical ‘over-the-counter’ medications such as Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Benadryl, cough medicine, Pepto-Bismol and Sudafed etc. Therefore, there is no need to send such over the counter items.
Head Lice/Ticks/Mosquitoes
Head lice
Head lice can be a persistent medical problem in any communal setting where children are in close contact. We will take proactive measures to protect your daughter at Camp, and prevent the spread of lice.
- On the first day of Camp, campers will be screened for nits and lice by NitsEnd.
- Wawenock adheres to a no nit policy. Any camper who arrives with nits/lice will be treated by NitsEnd using their signature AIRALLÉ® You will be billed for the cost of this treatment, which may be up to $300. We will call parents/guardians to notify you of the findings and the treatment.
- If your daughter requires treatment, she will not be isolated from the group, and she will return to the cabin the same day.
- Our nurses will check your daughter for lice before she departs Camp.
Here’s what you can do proactively at home, prior to your daughter’s arrival at Camp:
- Read the information provided by the National Pediculosis Association (NPA) at headlice.org ; learn to recognize lice, nits (lice eggs) and the symptoms of their presence.
- 2 weeks before Camp – check your daughter’s head. If there is evidence of lice, consult your pediatrician for treatment, remove all nits, and notify Camp so we may double-check her upon arrival.
- Check your daughter’s head the day before departure for Camp. If evidence of lice and/or nits, treat her at home and notify us so we can continue to monitor her at Camp.
Ticks and Mosquitoes
Deer ticks, which can carry diseases such as Lyme and Anaplasmosis, are prevalent in the northeast of the United States. We educate our staff and campers on the importance of regular tick checks, as well as encourage them to wear long pants and/or insect repellent in grassy or wooded areas. We recommend you send your daughter to Camp with an EPA-registered insect repellent, with DEET, Picaridin or Eucaliptus Lemon Oil.
In addition to educating campers and staff, we also utilize the services of Ivy Oaks , a public health control company which implements preventative measures for the reduction of tick populations, mosquito populations, and poisonous plant species at Camp.
Communication
We rely on our families to be open and honest with us about their daughter’s health before their arrival at Camp. Please call us if your daughter has had any recent illness or medical condition within 14 days of Camp’s opening day. In addition, please let us know if she has been recently in contact with any individual diagnosed with a communicable disease. The more information we have, the more we can help your daughter, and the whole camp family, to stay healthy while at Camp.
During the summer season, it is our policy to contact parents/guardians whenever their daughter is seen by a physician.
Should you have any concerns about your daughter’s health, don’t hesitate to call the Directors. If it seems appropriate, one of our Camp Nurses will be happy to speak with you as well.
CAMP POLICIES TO REVIEW WITH YOUR DAUGHTER
What makes a summer at Wawenock unique? It’s living more simply, in tune with nature’s rhythm, going to bed with the sun and listening to the lapping of waves on the shore. Part of living simply is the joy of communicating openly, face to face, with others who share those moments with you. For this opportunity to be fully experienced we do ask the girls to leave behind some of the ‘trappings’ of their lives at home. We ask that you read through the following policies and review them with your daughter. Experience has taught us that our partnership with parents is very important in helping children understand and therefore respect the “rules” at Camp. We find that campers are most comfortable when they know what is expected of them. So we ask that you and your child review the following simple rules:
Inclusion and being a part of the camp family: We strive to make it possible for every member of our Camp family to feel welcome, valued and a sense of belonging at Wawenock. We believe there is no place for discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation or disability. We commit to actively working toward being a bias-free community that embraces diversity and affirms the individuality of the members of our Camp family, so that each person at Wawenock feels comfortable to be themselves. We ask campers and staff to be open to learning about people who have different backgrounds and perspectives than them, and to communicate honestly and respectfully when they have differences.
Electronics: iPods, phones, and other electronic distractions must be left at home. In addition, due to the limited electric outlets in Camp, kindles and e-readers, are not permitted. In an effort to help girls live in the moment, we ask that campers not use go-pro cameras during the daily program.
Pocket Money and Valuables: We encourage your daughter to leave any valuables at home; we cannot assume responsibility for any money or valuables kept by a camper in her cabin. The camp office provides safekeeping for items such as passports and travel money, if necessary.
Packages: ‘Care Packages’ are not permitted. The feedback we have received from parents about Camp’s “no package policy” has been overwhelmingly positive. Parents have told us that it has taken the focus away from the “material” world in their communication with their daughter and removed any perceived pressure for busy parents to have to find and ship any ‘packages’ to camp. Refer to the section, “Communicating with Your Daughter”, for more details on mail.
Gratuities: There is no tipping at Wawenock. If you would like to recognize the staff, a letter of appreciation is an appropriate way to do so and will always be welcomed.
Personal Sports Equipment: Wawenock provides most necessary sports equipment. Campers taking tennis should bring their own racket. Riders should bring a riding hat (Pony Club approved, ASTM with seal of Safety Equipment Institute {SEI}) and boots with a heel. Campers wishing to bring any other sports equipment should consult with the Directors so we can determine if it’s appropriate for the camp environment and plan for its use and storage.
Weapons: Wawenock campers may not bring weapons, including pen knives, to Camp. Girls who participate in Outdoor Living Skills, Archery and Riflery are taught the proper safety techniques for care, use and storage of Camp’s equipment relative to these activities.
Drug/Tobacco/Alcohol Policy: Wawenock is a non-smoking, drug-free environment. No smoking or possession of any tobacco, e-cigarettes, alcohol or marijuana products or any controlled substance will be tolerated at any time, by campers or staff members.
PACKING FOR CAMP
Camp Uniform
The official Uniform, listed on your Packing List, can only be purchased from our uniform supplier. We are thrilled to now be collaborating with the Maine Camp Outfitters team as our official uniform supplier; we believe you will find shopping easy to navigate and their customer service exceptional. We are particularly proud that Maine Camp Outfitters is an all-woman owned company based in the state of Maine!
It is recommended that you order from Maine Camp Outfitters in April. For your convenience, you will find a camp catalog as well as clothing size charts on their website. Items may be ordered directly from Maine Camp Outfitters by phone or online through this link.

A possible resource for uniform sharing: In 2021, a current parent generously offered to start a private group on Facebook called the “Camp Wawenock Uniform Swap.” If your daughter has outgrown uniform items which you no longer need, you can share that in the group. It’s also a place you can check for uniform needs that you have. Reuse, reduce, recycle! Thanks to former camp parent, Emily, for creating and current parent, Martina, for helping manage this space and contributing to a more sustainable camp!
Beginning in 2023 our “middie blouse” was replaced with a similar looking polo shirt. If your daughter has the original “middie blouse,” she may wear that interchangeably with the polo shirt for Sunday evenings and special events. Likewise, in recent years, the uniform short has transitioned from the twill short to sport style shorts. If your daughter has the original twill short, she may wear them interchangeably with the new wayfarer sport or mesh short.
Camper Packing List
The Wawenock Packing List for 2026 is also downloadable through the forms section of our website.
- Because Wawenock is a uniform camp we request that the amount of casual clothing brought to Camp be limited. Our laundry service cannot accommodate extra clothing, and storage space in the cabins is limited. We count on your cooperation in helping your daughter select a small amount of casual clothing to wear, which is appropriate for a camp setting, for the few occasions she will not be wearing her camp uniform.
- We have found that girls who bring less “stuff” to Camp find it easier to stay organized. Too much can be a burden and source of frustration to girls as they learn to live independently.
- All items, including traveling clothes, must be clearly and permanently marked with your daughter’s name.
- In part to help reduce the amount to pack for camp, Wawenock provides all bedding for campers and staff. This includes 2 wool blankets, sheets, a pillow, pillowcases and a hand towel. Campers may bring their own Wawenock fleece blanket, available for purchase through Maine Camp Outfitters, and their own pillow, if they wish, but we ask that they use the camp pillowcase and all other bedding supplies.
- Please note, due to space constraints we do not allow footlockers (hard trunks).
TRANSPORTATION TO CAMP
Travel to Camp

We ask that you monitor your daughter’s health daily for 2 weeks prior to departure for Camp. Please notify us if your daughter has been treated for lice this school year. COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR DAUGHTER
Please advise your friends and relatives of these policies. Thank you for your support.
LETTERS
Your daughter’s address at Camp is:
‘Your daughter’s name’
Camp Wawenock
33 Wawenock Road
Raymond, ME 04071
Mail time is an important time at Camp. Girls receive mail daily – Monday through Saturday. Nothing beats a snail mail letter! Frequent and cheery letters from you will help to continue the ties with home as your daughter is gaining independence and finding her place in our Camp family. Your daughter will be writing home at least twice a week. Please be sure to send her to Camp with letter writing supplies, including postage stamps. Stamps can also be purchased online and shipped to your daughter at camp through the US Postal Service. Please bear in mind that some letters you receive from your daughter will be filled with love and joy whereas others may seem to contain quite the opposite! Children’s letters are always written “in the moment” and may be subject to oversimplification and exaggeration. Please don’t panic when trying to interpret the meaning behind one of your daughter’s letters. If you are at all concerned, please call us! You have placed great trust in Camp and we take our responsibility to get to know and work with your daughter very seriously. We value this trust and want to insure that your daughter has a positive growth experience at Wawenock. We will always be absolutely honest with you in what we are hearing and seeing, regarding your daughter’s experience at Camp.
Due to the slow pace of US Mail in recent years, we have allowed parents to send up to one email a day to their daughter, if they wish to do so. There is something very special about a real “snail mail” letter, so we encourage you to send some of those. And if you would like to send a few emails you can do so through your CampInTouch portal, where you will be instructed on the process. CampMinder does charge a fee for each email you send. Emails will be downloaded Monday through Friday by 11am and delivered that day. Campers will continue to send only snail mail.
For parents of international campers or those traveling internationally: Your daughter will be writing to you at least twice a week. Because international mail takes a long time, our office will scan and email your daughters letters twice a week to you, typically on Mondays and Thursdays.
PACKAGES
‘Care Packages’ are not permitted. The feedback we have received from parents about Camp’s “no package policy” has been overwhelmingly positive. Parents have told us that it has taken the focus away from the “material” world in their communication with their daughter and removed any perceived pressure for busy parents to have to find and ship any ‘packages’ to camp. As such, occasional flat envelopes containing a book, Sudoku, word puzzles, coloring book or other reading/writing materials are the only items which your daughter may receive in addition to your letters.
Please do not send your daughter candy, gum or food of any kind. The Directors/Office Manager reserve the right to check all incoming mail. If there is something your daughter requires which must be sent from home, please call the office to discuss this with Andy or Catriona.
Please do not use USPS Express Mail for anything – as it is problematic in our rural setting!
PHONE CALLS
In our experience, phone calls home slow the camper’s adjustment to Camp, even for returning campers. Exceptions are made for a camper’s birthday, if a family wishes to set up a call, or in the event of special circumstances discussed with the directors. Naturally, you may call to speak with one of the directors at any time.
VISITING YOUR DAUGHTER
VISITATION
Families of Full Season campers may select one day/partial day to visit between Saturday July 18th through Sunday July 26th. (There will be no visitation on Thursday July 23rd.) We rely on your partnership to protect the health of our camp family. We ask visiting families to take measures prior to visitation to reduce their own likelihood for illness thus mitigating the possibility of illness spreading into our camp family. Please help us finish the camp season on a healthy and positive note!
- Wawenock’s typical visitation structure is designed to allow families flexibility in when they visit, to provide you with the opportunity to see Camp in its normal operation, and to allow you to get the best possible feel for your daughter’s life at Camp. Girls and their families look forward to visitation, yet it can also cause some stress and regression in campers being settled in camp life. In light of this, we ask families to select one visitation day/partial day.
- Visiting hours Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday are between 9am and 3:30pm (Parents may observe campfire between 7:15 and 8:30 on Friday evening 7/17 or Wednesday evening 7/23)
- Visiting hours on Sunday are between 12:00 and 5:00; and Parents may observe Vespers between 7:15-8:15pm on Sunday evening 7/19 or 7/26)
- We do not provide lunch for visitors – you may bring a picnic lunch to share with your daughter at Camp. Please only bring food for your own family.
- If you wish, you may take your daughter off camp for lunch or an ice cream between 12:00pm and 2:30pm
Families of First Half campers may visit to observe campfire on Friday evening between 7:15 and 8:30 on 7/17 and during activities on Saturday morning between 9am-12pm on 7/18
Families of Second Half campers and Full Season campers may visit to observe our Friendship Campfire on Monday evening between 7:15 and 9:00pm on 8/10
Some families choose not to visit on site due to travel challenges/related costs etc. All families should feel comfortable selecting a virtual visit in lieu of an in person visit. We will arrange a phone call/zoom call for those who wish to connect with their full season camper this way. If you are not able to visit but wish your daughter to be visited by/leave with someone else, arrangements must be made in writing.
Please note, there is no visitation for Wayseeker or Wonder Week Campers.
