“Where I live, there are rainbows…” These are the opening lines to a song we sing weekly at our Vespers service on the Images. The lines are a part of the Hawaiian Lullaby, a song that Directors Syd and Lillian Ussher brought to Wawenock after their time spent in Hawaii (a connection that grew over the years and brought many campers and staff members to Wawenock). The lyrics, available here, illustrate a place like our special cove on Sebago. Well, today we’re suggesting that you share your rainbow with us!
In this difficult time, it’s so easy to focus on the negative and feel overwhelmed. To combat that feeling and spread hope, you may have seen rainbows in windows around your area. This is something children and families are doing worldwide. Camp alumna and current parent, Roseline from Canada sent us this photo of her with her daughter, current camper Charlotte, in front of their rainbow. Let’s create a catalog of Wawenock rainbows from around the world!
Materials Required: Paper, markers, sidewalk chalk, or colored pencils
How to Share your Rainbow: Make a sign or poster depicting a rainbow or the colors of the rainbow. Put it somewhere others can see it when they pass by your home. Take a photo and share it with us!
