Scavenger Hunts of all sorts are common at Camp (see our previous post about how to play a reverse scavenger hunt), but some require a little more planning and set up than others. To help you out, we’ve taken as much of the prep work away from you as we can! Below is a plan for a Home-Based Scavenger Hunt with pre-made clues for you to hide around your house.
Materials Required: Slips of paper with the clues on them. Click here to view and download the clues.
How to Set Up Your Home-Based Scavenger Hunt:
Step 1: Prepare the clues by either printing them out and cutting them up, or rewriting them onto individual slips of paper.
Step 2: Hide the clues around your house in the rooms indicated. While you’re hiding them, ask the children to go into another room in the house that’s not being used for the hunt, or outside. While there, they can come up with detective names and stories about themselves.
Step 3: Gather the group together and ask for their detective names and character stories. Hand them the first clue to begin!
*Counselor Hack: Once you’re in each room with the clue, if they are having trouble finding it you could ask them to complete a challenge to receive a hint. Challenges like: do a dance move, sing a song, answer a trivia question, etc. You could also play the hot/cold game (“you’re getting warmer…”) to help them zero in on it.
Good luck, Sherlock!
