Campers who take Outdoor Living Skills spend a lot of time in woods, identifying different tree species, learning to observe the sights and sounds around them, and enjoying the beautiful landscape of camp. One of the games they sometimes play as they walk around camp is one that we’re suggesting that you play today – it’s called Camouflage! Hopefully you’ve been making time to get outside daily, and this activity will make it a little bit more entertaining.
Materials Required: None! Just at least 3 people and some outdoor space.
How to Play Camouflage: One person acts as the group leader, leading the line of participants through the woods, backyard, or neighborhood. The leader randomly yells out “Camouflage!” and closes her eyes. The players have until the leader gets to 30 to run and hide themselves. The leader, without moving her feet, tries to spot and call out the hiders. She must say the name and location of the person she spots (“Kristy, behind the tree!”) to avoid just randomly calling names. When the leader has found everyone she can, Round 2 begins. As the leader counts to 20 the players must move closer to her and re-hide themselves. The leader tries to spot hiders in the same way as the previous round, and then moves onto Round 3. In Round 3 she only counts to 10 and the rest remains the same. In Round 4, if there is only one player left, she is the winner. If there are more, then Round 4 becomes a race, and the leader shouts “ready, set, go!” and the first player to tag her wins! The winner is the last person hiding OR the first to tag the leader in the race. Every player must move closer to the leader at the start of each new round, if they don’t move closer or don’t move at all, they are out.
Good luck!
